Winner of Stena Match Cup Sweden 2011

Ian Williams and his team GAC Pindar was about half a boat behind Hansen at the last rounding windward. Hansen did some mistakes at the rounding and got 2 yellow flags and team GAC Pindar could defile down to the finishing line.

Ian Williams was also the skipper in the celebrity hockey team that won the first race.

As I told you when we first started this blog about Stena Match Cup Sweden I was not a sailor girl. Now I’m gonna learn how to sail. These finals have really shown of the sport well. Many, many people had  gathered on the cliffs of Marstrand on this sunny windy day. Coming up now is a big party for the winners. Check out the blog tomorrow for pictures from the party and prize-giving ceremony.

Flight 2 Finals

Petit: Peter Gilmour took the start but Radich came back at the first rounding. Gilmour got a penatly flag early in the race. After first rounding Radich was in lead and could safely sail into goal

Big: Close fight all the way into goal. It was a really tight call, but Williams took the victory so now it’s 1-1

Flight 1

Lot’s of people at the cliffs of Marstrand shouting when Hansen got the first match. But is first to 3 wins!

OMG what a thrilling final in both matches.

Gilmour took the lead over Radich in the first game after being a bit behind on the first leg. But after rounding one there’s no doubt that Gilmour should win that match calmly he sailed to the first win in this semi.

Björn Hansen got a penalty flag early in the race and didn’t turn until the last, last minute and managed to take the first match but it was a close call!

Semifinals

What a thrilling day it has been, long story short Björn Hansen is in The finals against Ian Williams.

Björn and Mekonomen sailing team started good, winning the first flight. Radich won the second match which made it really exciting. Third flight Hansen took the lead against Radich, match 4 was really thight in the prestart. Radich was really pressing Hansen and had the upper hand 15 seconds before start. Hansen got good winds and managed to press Radich over The starting line and from there I can only imagine the feeling on the boat.

Day 6

What a day, we finished the round robins on the midmorning with 4 teams at 9 points. We had to calculated amongst the races who was the winner of the round robins and it turned out to be Björn Hansen who won. That meant that he got to pick first whom the team would like to race against. They picked Phil Robertson and his team that was the last team to qualify. Which was a good but tough choice. In the first match Phil was really aggressive and got 2 penalties in the pre start and was crossing the start line before time. He had to take a penalty immediately and was sailing offensive and although he got 3 penalty flags in the match he was not far behind Hansen.

This is how it looked in 2007 when Hansen won Match Cup Sweden.
Some nice memories. Let’s see what’s in store for tomorrow. What we do know is that Hansen picked Jesper Radich in the semis and that Peter Gilmour got Ian Williams.
