Day 5

What a day… and it’s not over yet. The sailors have been out there since about 9 o’clock this morning. And the Swedes have been sailing good today. Johnie Berntsson started the day of victories by beating Swinton. Keith was penalized at the start in the race and had never a chance to catch up with Berntsson.

The third match that flight Björn Hansen took the lead over Rasmus Viltoft on the first leg and kept it right over the finish line.

The fourth match in the first flight of the day, swedish skipper Mattias Rahm had a tight match with Jesper Radich. He took his revenge immediately when he beat Phil Robertson in the next match.

Then all the celebrities came and despite a heavy rain many people came to Marstrand to check out them sailing. I heard that last year Marcus Samuelsson had a little swim during a race so I was curious if he would take a dip this year again but it was another man who took a swim. The hockey team with Ian Williams at lead with crew members like, Magnus Kahnberg, Loui Eriksson, Fredrik Pettersson and Peter Klock from GKSS. They did a great first race winning but in the second race they was caught in a buoy and Peter had to take a little dip to get loose. Although I don’t think he minded, cause it rained like nothing else today.

Hopefully we’ll get sun and nice winds this weekend when  the finals are going off.
But Congratulations to the winners, Carola Häggqvist, Stefan Sauk, Marcus Samuelsson with the skipper Mathieu Richard.

Celebrity race

We’ve had a really fun celebrity race here at Marstrand. All the celebs were divided into groups with the skippers. The downhill specialist Anja Pärson and the goalkeeper Thomas Ravelli were paired up with Keith Swinton and they left the dock first and Anja felt really good about leaving first and saw this as a sign of victory.

Winner of the first race was the boat Fearnleys/Skuld/BangerHead with the hockey players Magnus Kahnberg, Loui Eriksson and Fredrik Pettersson. They were paired up with Ian Williams unfortunately they didn’t keep the nice sailing up and in the second race they came in last. It was a little bad luck as well the were caught in a buoy otherwise they would have a chance of the celeb title.

Winner of the celebrity race was Carola Häggkvist, Stefan Sauk and Marcus Samuelsson. They were teamed up with Mathieu Richard and if you could have seen the look on Carola, Stefan and Marcus when they were back on shore. I looked like they had much fun! And that’s really how fun it is!

Carola one of the happy winners

Friday Celebrity Race at Marstrand

What isn’t happening today, the men are out on the ocean doing their Round Robins. We are right now in the midst of flight 15. The Swedes started the day really good. All 3 of them won their first matches so it looks very good in a Swedes point of view. But that’s not all of what is happening today, today it’s celebrity race. We have already met Tina Thörner the rally navigator and Anja Pärson the downhill skier. Tina had a little chat with  the Principal Race Officer Annika Ekman about race rules and strategy. Guess someone is in for the win!

Stena Metall and Marstrands Segelsällskap has joint force and are making sure that the island look perfect. They are walking and driving around on these silent but really cool environmental friendly mopeds. I met Arvid and Ludvig from the Crew. They told me that the cans they find they give to Childhood. This is how we all are working together to make what we can to make the world a better place. These guys and girls are doing and really important job when they are collecting cans and making sure that everything looks good!
